Summary:

Built in 1907, Newton Auditorium was once the largest theater west of the Mississippi. Over the following decades, the auditorium was remodeled numerous times and the 1990’s was incorporated into the Denver Performing Arts Complex. During its 2003 renovation, all interior levels were removed, leaving only the historic exterior facade. Part of the renovation included lowering the basement level, exposing the existing stone foundation walls. J.R. Harris & Company provided bracing expertise to maintain structural integrity of the stone walls that had been braced by the removed floors. Post-tensioned grouted tie-backs were designed and coordinated carefully with the contractor to navigate buried utilities, ensuring minimal impact on the project schedule.
