Portofino Tower, Excavation Bracing

Client: Coggins and Sons, Inc
Completion Date: 2003
Services: Construction Engineering
Summary:
A 14-story luxury condominium in downtown Denver required two levels of underground parking, necessitating a 30-foot deep excavation near busy roads and adjacent buildings. J.R. Harris & Company designed a cost-effective bracing system using steel soldier beams, wood lagging, post-tensioned tiebacks, and internal bracing. Utilizing a soil-structure interaction analysis, the system was successfully strengthened to support a heavy crane surcharge without delaying construction. Construction phase services ensured safe and efficient implementation.
