Summary:

J.R. Harris & Company (JRH) was retained by AECOM to perform a custom condition assessment of an existing, below-grade water storage tank that had been in service for multiple decades and was showing signs of concrete deterioration. Our investigation included extensive ground-penetrating radar on the roof slab to assess reinforcement conditions, arm’s length inspection of the interior concrete surfaces of the tank to assess the extent and nature of concrete deterioration and rebar corrosion, extraction of concrete cores and in-situ strength testing that was performed for us by an industry partner, and structural analysis of the tank based on discovered conditions to verify adequate strength for continued use of the tank. In order to perform the interior tank inspection work at elevation, JRH subcontracted directly to a support contractor to erect an 18-foot rolling scaffold inside the tank for our use to access the underside of the roof slab.
