Summary:
J.R. Harris & Company provided structural engineering services for a 15-level, 400,000-square-foot mixed-use facility in Telluride at an altitude of 9,490 feet. The fast-track project included a hotel, condominiums, spa, golf clubhouse, pools, restaurants, laundry, and parking garage. Key contributions included innovative steel connection designs, adaptive seismic engineering, phased structural drawings, and contractor collaboration. As a unique service to the client, JRH recommended and implemented a seismic design acceleration somewhat higher than building code requirements due to more up‑to‑date information from USGS and magnitude of project (Zone 2A). In addition to extensive construction administration that included construction observations that totaled 40 days in Telluride, JRH also provided ongoing consultation to contractors, including the design of a post-tensioned soil anchor excavation bracing system.
