Summary:
J.R. Harris & Company was part of a six-member team that investigated the structural damage sustained by the Pentagon after the airplane crash on September 11, 2001. Convened on the day of the attack, the team reviewed available information on the building’s structure, crash loading, and eyewitness accounts. Their evaluation focused on understanding why portions of the building collapsed while others remained standing, as well as the role of the ensuing fire in causing delayed collapse. Through impact, static, and thermal analyses, the team developed recommendations for future design and construction practices and identified areas requiring further research and development. The findings of this study are detailed in The Pentagon Building Performance Report.
